The Naive Wife (Rachel’s Hope) is the third book in The Naive Wife Trilogy written by Christian writer Ufuomaee.
If you have read the first two parts, you will understand my excitement about the release of Rachel’s Hope.
My love for the trilogy stems from the fact that it seeks to give answers and clarity to many of the questions that boggle the hearts of many single and married people.
In Rachel’s Hope, it is now obvious that Rachel, the one who gives relationship advice and tries to save other people’s relationships and marriages, is on the verge of losing hers.
What happens next? Is she expected to remain in her marriage and continue fighting?
One question many Christians still do not have a clear answer to is what happens when Christians realize they made a mistake in the choice of a life partner? Can Christians ever leave their marriage? And on what grounds?
One of my biggest lessons from Rachel’s Hope is the importance of trusting in God.
Unfortunately, some of us are afraid of asking God and trusting Him completely because we were taught that God will never give us what we want. Some of us don’t even know we don’t trust Him because our lack of trust is subtle. But it’s clear from the way our hearts miss a beat when we are asked to pray to know His will about something.
We put up defenses already anticipating that He would say ‘No’. We may even avoid asking because we believe He won’t answer, and we do not want to be disappointed. We think He will scold us and reject us especially if we have sinned or made mistakes, so we reject Him first.
We forget that He isn’t mincing words when He says, “I have loved you with an everlasting love and I have drawn you with My loving-kindness.”
We forget that He says: “I know the plans I have for you, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
Many of the characters in Rachel’s Hope are flawed, just like many of us. Through some of these characters, Ufuomaee reminds us of how easily we can fall into sin if we are not careful. But we are also shown how large the Father’s heart is, how merciful He is to us and to all who are willing to come to Him.
With this book, Ufuomaee shows us the importance of having a relationship with God; hearing Him, trusting Him, and following His leading because He loves us. And if we ever miss it, His love is abiding, and He can make all things work together for our good if we remain in Him. This was Rachel’s hope, and it is ours too.
Rachel’s Hope is like a balm to wounded hearts, especially hearts that are hurting because of troubled marriages, failed marriages, and wrong choices. Rachel’s Hope offers an invitation to God’s throne and an assurance that God’s love never fails.
Whether or not you agree with the ending, which I love, by the way, because the character I was rooting for “won”?, these lessons and more makes it a good read. It is entertaining, insightful, and spiritual. It is one book you will remember even long after you have read it.
