The Naive Wife (Rachel’s Choice) is the first book in The Naive Wife Trilogy written by Christian writer Ufuomaee.
In this first instalment, we are introduced to 32-year-old Rachel, the female protagonist who is a Christian and a Radio presenter. Rachel meets two men interested in dating her on the day of her sister’s introduction and has to make a choice. Will she make the right choice?
The book, Rachel’s Choice, mirrors the complexities that can be involved in choosing a life partner. The questions of who do I marry and how do I know he or she is the one are questions many singles have asked from time immemorial.
Marriage is a serious business. It has been said that your choice of a life partner can make or mar you, and knowing that it is not easy to walk away from marriage makes it imperative to get it right from the start.
What do you watch out for? What are the red flags? How do you recognize and deal with red flags? These are some of the issues raised in the book.
Other salient issues are the importance of recognizing internal and external pressures and dealing with them before making a choice. The role of subconscious conditioning in choosing a life partner is not often talked about, because many don’t even know it exists, but it does, and it is responsible for how some singles end up with wrong partners.
This is a love story many will resonate with, whether single or married. If you are single, this is a must-read. One of the things I love about a good Christian romance is how you are reading and enjoying a love story but also learning and hearing God speak to you.
My biggest lessons would be the danger of assumption, the importance of patience, and the role of solid friendships. A lot of times, instead of tarrying in the place of prayer to get clarity on a matter after receiving a word, we assume we understand what we have heard, and we run with that assumption, not knowing we have misinterpreted what we received. We assume we know people when we don’t, so we put them in a box and give them our labels, labels that may be wrong.
In choosing a life partner, and even generally in our faith walk as believers, patience is key. We must take a cue from the patriarch Abraham and learn to trust and wait regardless of the circumstances and let God bring his words to pass in his own time. This can be hard, very hard but it is necessary.
And that is why having solid friendships is important. No one should do life alone. We need friends we can be vulnerable with so singlehood doesn’t feel so lonely, friends who can pray along with us and give us good advice. We can be clouded by our emotions or faulty lenses but God can use our friends to point out red flags to us.
See eh, just get a copy and enjoy this love story that will tug at your heart. Kudos Ufuomaee, this is a good book. I enjoyed reading it.
