About Dr Anne-Marie Imafidon

Dr Anne-Marie Imafidon MBE is a prodigy in every sense of the word. Aged 11, she was the youngest girl ever to pass A-level computing and was just 20 years old when she received her Master’s Degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Oxford. Since then, she has forged an enviable CV, including positions at Goldman Sachs, Hewlett-Packard and Deutsche Bank.

Then there are the Honorary Doctorates from Open University, Glasgow Caledonian University, Kent University & Bristol University and an Honorary Fellowship at Keble College, Oxford.

She is also a Visiting Professor at the University of Sunderland.

Why She Wrote ‘How to be a Maths Whizz’

Dr Anne-Marie Imafidon’s new book ‘How to be a Maths Whizz’ was published by DK books on the 6th May 2020.

She wrote this book so that children can find out that being a mathematician isn’t just about scrawling numbers on a dusty chalkboard – it is part of our everyday lives!

What Children Will Learn From The Book

Each section is designed around an everyday topic, such as “toys and games”, and “transport”, so kids can learn about the maths all around them. With more than 30 activities and crafts that children can play their way through, this kids’ book takes the fear away from maths.

How to be a Maths Whizz will teach kids to think like maths pros as they ask mathematical questions and get hands-on with key maths concepts. From calculation and place value to time, shapes, and measurements, core curriculum maths topics are covered in creative and engaging ways.

This book invites children to investigate maths in a playful and hands-on way, using things from around their homes: finding out about 3D shapes by designing and building their own city, learn about measurement by growing their own plant, and uncover the mystery of coordinates through drawing their own treasure map.

Suitable for most age ranges but mainly 7-9 years.
