Chances of surviving breast cancer are relatively better when it is detected early and treatment starts immediately. Sadly, many women in Nigeria do not know what to do to check if they have breast cancer before it is too late for treatment.

Chinwe Godwin-Omoaka has started a Foundation to create awareness, provide access to breast screening and also support women who have been diagnosed. Her mission is to help reduce deaths due to breast cancer by early detection.

About Chinwe Godwin-Omoaka

Chinwe Godwin-Omoaka is a lawyer practising in Lagos. She is also the Founder of Worthy Wellness Initiative, a breast cancer awareness foundation.

She founded the non-profit organization to create breast cancer awareness and organise breast cancer screening for low-income women. They also support women diagnosed with breast cancer by sourcing for funds from individuals and corporate bodies to take care of their treatments.

Why She Started Worthy Wellness Initiative

This foundation was birthed in July 2020 after her journey with breast cancer in 2019.

She has a deep desire to help other women beat breast cancer by early detection since studies have shown that the surest cure for breast cancer is early detection. Her sincere desire is to reduce the mortality rate to the barest minimum through the foundation.

Free Breast Cancer Screening For Low-Income Women

To mark the 2020 breast cancer month in October, they are organising their first free breast cancer screening for less privileged women on 17th October 2020 at BM Empire Multi specialist Hospital in Surulere, Lagos.

Thirty women have been shortlisted for this exercise. Those that may be diagnosed with the disease will commence treatment through the help of the foundation.
