To borrow the words of Pastor John Onojeharho who wrote the foreword to this book, The Marriage ABCs is not as simple as ABC.
In recent times, I have heard many people say that nothing you read in a book can prepare you for marriage as every marriage has its own rules, so just do you.
They haven’t read The Marriage ABCs.
I hold a strong belief that knowledge and wisdom are liberating, and in case you don’t know, we are in a knowledge decade. God has poured out wisdom and knowledge upon mankind like never before, and almost everything you need to succeed at anything has been handed over in the form of knowledge and wisdom, and books are one of the places you will find this knowledge and wisdom.
The marriage institution is one of the fabrics that hold society together, so it is not surprising that a lot has been said and written about marriage. Some wholesome, some not. Some beneficial, some not so beneficial. Not The Marriage ABCs.
Ufuomaee, using the Bible as inspiration, has written a book that can otherwise be called Guiding Principles on Marriage. Using an alphabetical order, Ufuomaee simplifies timeless lessons that can help people have beautiful, long-lasting marriages.
The book also includes guidelines that can restore failing marriages, especially amongst Christians. She doesn’t leave the singles behind, as these principles are also beneficial for singles.
Marriage is not a bed of roses. Marriage is work, and anyone who wants to get married must be ready to put in the work. It is much more than having a glamorous occasion, it is more than having butterflies in your tummy. It is work, commitment, loyalty, sacrifice, and compromise. It is work, and it is not for everyone.
Yes, you read that correctly.
The Marriage ABCs will open your eyes to many things. It may break you but in a good way. You may not agree with all that is written in it, but you cannot deny the wisdom that flows from it. This is a book that will make you get a journal or pen and paper when reading.
I haven’t read a book on marriage like this in a long time.
For a while, I wondered if we will see books that will help and transform relationships and marriages like the beloved late Pastor Bimbo Odukoya’s books, and it dawned on me while reading this book that this is it. I can boldly recommend this book to singles and married people, not because the author of the book is perfect but because this book will help you in your marriage, and God knows our marriages need help.
It’s not every day I finish reading a book and pray for its author, something I found myself doing while reading this book. We need a reminder of what is expected of us in marriages, we need the wisdom to make our marriages work, we also need to know if and when we can ever leave this sacred institution. We, most importantly, need to know if we are even equipped for it.
It is my sincere prayer that many men will read this book. Women tend to read books like this because they are mostly not afraid or proud to ask and seek help. We all need help, men and women alike, so I hope men get to read this book, so the burden to make marriages work isn’t one-sided.
The book is suitable for every adult, especially Christian men and women.
I will be reading this book again, and trust me, I hardly read books twice because I have many others to read and so little time. A book lover’s dilemma ?. But this is a book I have to read again.
Each marriage is unique and no book has all the answers, same with The Marriage ABCs, but it will help you tremendously. Don’t sleep on it. This should be included in wedding gifts as well. The couple will thank you.
