Ruqoyah Ogunbiyi is a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Professional and Founder of Sane Mind, a child mental health organization providing accessible mental wellness solutions for African Children.

Over the past six years, Ruqoyah has built her expertise in child mental health designing interventions that promote mental wellness in children and address academic, behavioral, and emotional challenges children go through. She has trained over 5000 parents, teachers, and corporate professionals on different aspects of mental health.

Through her organization, she has consulted for over 100 families on confidence building, family therapy, and child psychotherapy.

Ruqoyah has a degree in pharmacy and a Masters degree in child and adolescent mental health from Africa’s premier Centre for Child and Adolescent Mental Health where she finished among the top 3 in her class.

She’s been featured in The Guardian, The Nation, LTV and Arise TV. She is also one of UNICEF’s mental health experts.

Why She Started Sanemind
Sanemind was founded out of the need to increase awareness for children’s mental health
and provide accessible mental wellness solutions for children. In 2015, I was at a workshop where I heard a 15-year old talking about how she had attempted to kill herself twice. Her story inspired me to connect the dots on how childhood experiences affect mental health.

A year later, I went on to organize a 3-day seminar on how to detect the early signs of mental health disorders in children. After which I enrolled for a Masters in child and adolescent mental health at the University of Ibadan.

How Their Work Is Changing Lives
Since 2017, Sanemind has reached over 1 million individuals with her awareness programs, content, and campaigns and built a community of over 25,000 parents, school owners, administrators, and teachers.

The Sanemind Positive Affirmation Flashcard, a confidence and resilience building product, and family bonding calendar are being used by over 2000 children across Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, UK, Canada, and the US.

Her 2021 goal is to build confidence and resilience in 4000 children through child mental health expertise.

The Child Mental Health Summit
The Child Mental Health Summit is the first of its kind, and it is aimed at providing a multiagency and disciplinary approach to child mental health awareness and accessible wellness solutions. The virtual summit is organized in commemoration of World Mental Health Day.

It consists of a panel session with top-notch professionals who would be sharing their expertise on children’s mental health.

As well as a break-out session for families and schools where child mental health professionals will be training them on mental health-promoting strategies in schools and families.

Why You Should Attend The Summit
Unmet mental health needs in children and adolescents are the leading cause of substance abuse, depression, suicide, and poor self-esteem in children and adolescents.

This summit will equip participants with the knowledge to build resilience and mental wellness in children and adolescents across families and schools.

Participants will also get resources that are easy to use and can be used at home and in
schools to promote mental wellness in children and adolescents.
