Put one sentence on a t-shirt for the whole world to see, what will it be?
‘Do not allow your gender to limit your agenda’ – This sums up the core of what I do under gender advocacy. I believe that women should soar high and never be limited by the shackles of culture but maximize their potentials.
If you have all it takes to start a support group, which group of people will it be for?
It will be a support group for women in career. The support group will help different women in similar or different fields of endeavours who are facing the same challenges connect with one another. It would help these women gain more tips on how to deal with issues in the corporate world as women climbing the ladder in their careers.
What is the ill in the world, you know you have been equipped to help heal?
The ill in the world I have been equipped to help heal is the issue of gender inequality. My advocacy is channelled towards ensuring that women break out of stereotypes and the limitations that hold them at bay like the shackles of culture.
What do you do when life feels heavy?
When life feels heavy, I draw strength from God. During tough times, when I am overwhelmed, I also draw strength from my parents’ journeys. They have gone through life, seen a lot, and surmounted them all. I think to myself, if they could go through these things and still be here, I can too. I can be strong like them. It will definitely get better.
One life lesson that has taken you the longest to learn?
I have learned that sometimes it is okay to forgo some chases. I am naturally a go-getter. Once I set my heart on something, I ensure that I get it. This has helped me in my academic journey so far. Recently, I am beginning to understand that being persistent about getting anything in any aspect of life may not work. Some of our keenest heart desires are toxic to us along our life’s journey, and clinging to them will only hurt us. In such situations, it’s okay to let go. Persistence is not necessary when it is affecting our peace of mind and sanity.
We should know when to move on and when to let go.
If your life is a book, what will be the title of the chapter you are in right now?
The title of the chapter I am now is Process.
I have a lot of lofty dreams, dreams I have been weaving since I was a child. Right now, I am in that place where I am patiently going through the process that will take me to the bigger level. There are seasons and transitions in life and I believe that I am currently in that process where I am pruning for the bigger stage and platform.
Some youths have role models they admire and want to be like but they want it to happen instantaneously. They want to get to the height their role models have attained in the twinkling of an eye. They do not want to follow PROCESS and stay true to sacrifices like their role models had to. We should be patient enough to follow PROCESS. I believe in the place of the process a lot. I am patient enough to follow the process. As much as I pray for God’s Grace in making things work out for me, I am patient to go through the process. I know I am not where I used to be and I know years after, it will be better I am not in a hurry. I will keep trusting the process.
If you can ask God one question about life and get an answer straight from Him, what will it be?
I will ask the significance of periods to womanhood. Like wouldn’t women have lived on earth conveniently without it? I have seen how other women go through cramps and other effects during this period.
What do you connect with the most in nature, what resonates with you more than others?
Water. Water resonates with me more than anything else. It is no wonder why people call it one of the earth’s elements. Water is crucial for our survival. We drink it. We bath it. We cook with it. Our body is up to 60% water. We can’t do without water. It cleanses us. Detoxifies us. Calms and relaxes us. There are also so many rich proverbs about water. And like water, anytime humans interact, we pour ourselves into one another. How humans connect is likened to the movement of water in Yoruba parlance.
What is your favourite thing about yourself?
The favourite thing about myself especially as a woman is that I do not conform. I think critically and I always say no to herd mentality. I break away from social conditioning that limits me as a woman. I also question and confront several beliefs in society.
What do you think we need the most to heal the world right now?
Love will heal the world because it is deep and selfless. With love, there will be no war or disunity. Everyone will care for the other person truly and we will have world peace.
